Bio
After graduating from Otterbein College in Westerville, Ohio with degrees in English and Education, Tom Martin entered the real estate field in 1969. While completing the Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) and Member Appraisal Institute (MAI) core courses, Tom held the position of Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Ski Country Enterprises, a large commercial real estate and development company in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. During his tenure with Ski Country, Tom played an integral role in the development and sales of numerous commercial and condominium properties, including Storm Meadows, Burgess Creek, and the residential community surrounding Lake Catamount. By the end of his decade-long tenure with Ski Country, Tom had successfully built the #1 full service real estate brokerage in all Northwest Colorado.
In 1980, Tom shifted gears and created a seven-office commercial, residential and development real estate company on the western slopes of Colorado, concentrating on the rapid growth of the energy-impacted areas of the state. Three and one-half years later, he launched Tom Martin and Associates (TMA), a real estate commercial-investment firm in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Through TMA, Tom was contracted to consult with high-end ski, golf, and lake communities on such issues as land planning, valuation, sales, marketing, agent training and planned unit development which continued through the first decade of the new millennium. His work also involved advising growth-oriented brokers on creative leadership techniques, efficient management solutions, and real estate business development.
After moving to Georgia in the 1993, Tom was again recruited to be Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for a 7,000-acre golf and lake development, where he managed the local real estate sales team and assisted in land planning, property valuation and all facets of sales and marketing increasing property values within the community and building a sales team that consistently exceeded sales expectations.
In 2007, Tom became associated with Coldwell Banker United as Senior Vice President of the twenty-two office Carolinas Region. While serving Coldwell Banker United, Tom re-structured the region over the next four years, helping it attain unprecedented growth during one of the most demanding and difficult economies in US history.
Upon return home to Lake Oconee, Tom was approached by BankSouth to create and serve as President and COO of Coldwell Banker Lake Oconee Realty/Lake Country and Coldwell Banker Lake Country commercial division. Under his stewardship, Coldwell Banker Lake Oconee has consistently maintained the predominate market share and been ranked the #1 real estate firm in Georgia’s Lake Country by sales volume since its inception over ten years ago.
Among his numerous accolades, Tom was honored in 1978 by the Northwest Colorado Board of Realtors as “Realtor of the Year,” and in 1987, Tom was named CRB of the Year by the Colorado-Wyoming Chapter. He was later voted “Coach of the Year” (the only time it was ever awarded) by his peers on the National Real Estate Brokerage Managers’ Council faculty. He was also named the 1989 President of the Managers’ Council and is one of only five CRB’s nationally to ever receive the coveted “Eagle” Award. He is a Past President of the Colorado Association of Realtors and a recipient of their Distinguished Service Award.
Outside of work, Tom and his wife, Linda, enjoy traveling the globe, attending sporting events (Go Dawgs!), spending time with their family of four children and eight grandchildren, and living the good life at Lake Oconee with their two dogs, Olivia and Annie, and their cat, Belle.
