Tom handles some of the more complex business rates instructions for both Devon and Somerset County Councils, plus some private clients. His particular forte is unusual properties and cases where a firm grasp of business rates law is essential. he has appeared and won a handful of cases at the Valuation Tribunal. In 2017 he challenged the VOA on its interpretation of the law of rating exemption & forced the VOA to change its national guidance to staff.
Tom is responsible for the management and lettings of two industrial estates, one for Devon County Council and another for a private client, and also deals with other Landlord and tenant work including dilapidations, taking leases of commercial property, rent reviews and lease renewals.
He also handles land acquisition and compensation work for Highway improvements, and sales of surplus property.
