Bio
Licensed since 1979, Tom Burns is the owner of Burns & Ellis Realtors along with his wife, Terry. Tom has unparalleled experience in the range of real estate transactions, from selling residential homes and commercial space to developing land, neighborhoods, and office parks. His clients and partners praise his wisdom, honesty, work ethic, dedication, and exceptional experience, which enable him to seamlessly navigate even the most complicated of deals. Tom and Terry have two children, whom they raised in Dover and both of whom are well educated, successful and happily married. Having lived in Delaware nearly all of his life (Dover since 1979), Tom has become exceptionally involved in community affairs and knows the town like the back of his hand. Tom is a longtime board member and the former treasurer of the Kent County Association of Realtors. He has also served as Chairman of both the Education Committee for the Delaware Real Estate Commission and the State Forms Committee for the Delaware Association of Realtors. Tom has also stayed very involved in Dover’s premier hospital, serving 22 years on the Kent General/Bayhealth Board of Directors (and four of those years as Chairman of the Board). He is presently a member of the Bayhealth Planning and Real Estate Committees. Previously, a member of the University of Delaware’s Board of Trustees from 1999 to 2017, Tom served on their Finance and Executive Committee and headed the Grounds and Building Committee. He is also a founding member and past president of the Greater Kent Committee, a member of the City of Dover Tax Assessment Appeals Board and a past member of the WSFS Kent County Board of Advisors. Tom is a member of the Board of Governors of the Rehoboth Beach Country Club and serves as Chairman of the House Committee. Tom spends his free time enjoying his family, which includes 2 grandchildren. He also enjoys fishing, golf and a fine glass of pinot noir!
