Ted Bywater entered the real estate development business in 1969 as a managing general partner for Messers, Trammel Crow of Dallas and Frank Carter and Ewell Pope of Atlanta. After developing apartments in Orlando, Florida, he helped form Bradley, Young & Bywater Properties headquartered in Tampa, Florida. They were successful in developing apartments and condominiums in Orlando and Tampa. During this period, he was actively involved in the management of the company's portfolio.
In 1977, Mr. Bywater started The Bywater Company as a full service commercial real estate firm specializing in the sales, leasing and management of retail, office and industrial space. In the 35 years since The Bywater Company was formed, it has been responsible for the sale and leasing of more than ten million square feet of office, retail and warehouse space in addition to its extensive brokerage, investment, management and development activities. The Bywater Company's salesmen have earned it the reputation of being one of the best marketing firms in the area and their client list reads like a Who's Who of American Business. His real estate contemporaries recognize Mr. Bywater as one of the best real estate professionals in the area.
