Born and raised in Northeastern Wyoming, she moved to Colorado in 1993 after a job opening with the airline, she was working at opened up in Telluride. Married her husband in 1995 and moved to Canon City in 1997 as her husband was offered a teaching position at Canon City High School. They have lived and have raised their two children for the past 23 years. She worked in the school system and was a Mentor Director at their local Boys & Girls Club.
