Career Summary
Steve has more than 20 years experience in the commercial real estate industry. He joined The Furman Co. in 1983 as a retail broker and was credited with over one quarter billion in brokerage activities in the 1980's. After having served as the company's top producer for several years and emerging as one of the leading real estate consultants in the Upstate SC region, he was promoted to President. Since 1990 he has directed the operations of each company, and specifically oversees the Retail, Office, Industrial and Investment Groups of Grubb & Ellis | The Furman Co.
Consulting Activities
As a Counselor of Real Estate (CRE), Steve is involved in various strategic counseling assignments. Clients within the private sector represent a sample of corporate America and high net worth individuals. Public sector experience includes service for various municipalities and the federal government.
The Counselors of Real Estate is a professional membership organization established in 1953 exclusively for leading real property advisors. The organization serves 1,100 members worldwide. Members are awarded the CRE designation, which is bestowed by invitation only.
Education, Professional Courses, Affiliations
Steve received a BA degree in Business Administration, with major emphasis in Real Estate/Finance and a minor emphasis in Economics from California State University - Fullerton. Steve currently carries the designations of Counselors of Real Estate (CRE) and Certified Commercial Investment Members (CCIM). He is also involved with the Urban Land Institute, serving on the ULI Leadership team as Chairman of the Small Scale Development Council. He was past Vice Chairman of the National Program Committee. He is a member of the Executive Committee for the Counselors of Real Estate and is the Chairman of the CRE Education committee and the immediate past Chairman of the Business Issues Committee. He serves on the Board of Directors for Imagine Nation and is a member of the Investment Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC). He is a past member of the Board of Directors for the Greater Greenville Chamber of Commerce and the Board of Advisors for Furman University. Steve is also a member of the Executive Committee for the Grubb & Ellis Affiliates (GEA) Advisory Council where he currently presides as Chairman.
