Bio
Rich Hopen has been a real estate broker for over twenty years. He has worked with buyers and sellers throughout northern New Jersey and believes in developing a data-driven strategy to help — buyers find a house they love coming home to and sellers get the highest price with minimal inconvenience. Rich received the 2021 NJ REALTORS Circle of Excellence Award.
Rich started his real estate career as a commercial real estate broker where he represented national and international companies in obtaining office space throughout the U.S. His larger clients included Amerigroup Corp, subsequently acquired by Anthem Health, and Tata Consultancy Services. Rich received the CoStar Power Broker award when he transacted the largest office lease in Downtown NYC and Tampa Florida.
Prior to real estate brokerage, Rich practiced environmental law in Florida and Washington DC. His law firm clients included Rolls Royce, Motorola, Westinghouse, Kmart, Waste Management, and the City of North Miami. Rich worked in the public sector for the US EPA and was special counsel to the US House of Representative’s Oversight & Investigative Subcommittee of the Energy & Commerce Committee. Rich received the highest designation in ethics and competency (AV rating) by Martindale-Hubbell.
Rich was an adjunct professor of Business Law and founded and co-founded many businesses, including Florida Wetlands bank. This was an entrepreneurial venture in wetlands mitigation banking and was the first fully permitted wetland mitigation bank in the US.
Rich volunteers his time addressing real estate wire fraud by speaking and writing on the topic and working with trade associations, the press, and policymakers. He was quoted in the Wall Street Journal and featured in HousingWire.
Rich is also interested in how blockchain and crypto will transform real estate. Rich produces a weekly newsletter, “Crypto News for Realtors,” and writes the Crypto Corner column for Inman, a real estate publication.
