Raquel E. Carter is the principal broker and owner of Guide Realty, a full-service real estate firm headquartered in Lexington, KY. She became a licensed realtor and member of the Lexington Bluegrass Association of Realtors (LBAR) in 2002. In 2008, Raquel and her mother, Phyllis Alexander, left a larger real estate firm to open Guide Realty. Guide Realty began as a small, boutique office and under Raquel’s leadership has expanded to include five full-time administrative staffers, over 30 REALTORS® in Central Kentucky and North Carolina and a community-facing professional rental space, The Compass Center making Guide Realty Kentucky’s largest African American owned real estate company.
In 2020, Raquel was appointed to the Kentucky Real Estate Commission by Governor Andy Beshear. She is currently serving her first term as KREC Commissioner where she is a member of the Equity, Diversion and Inclusion committee. She is also an appointed member of LFUCG Board of Adjustments, serves on the Lexington Community Land Trust (LCLT) Real Estate Development Committee and serves on the newly formed Lexington For Everyone board established to promote jobs, homes and equity for all of Lexington’s residents.
She has been active in advocacy and representation for Affordable Housing projects in the community including Equestrian View, Davis Park and Rain Garden in Lexington. Raquel has also been active within the real estate industry with participation in Lexington Bluegrass Association of Realtors’ Community Education Committee, Executive Committee, Diversity and Inclusion Task Force and the Realtor Community Housing Foundation, LBAR’s non-profit organization. In addition to LBAR participation, she is a member of Kentucky Realtor’s Diversity and Inclusion Task Force and former President of the Lexington Chapter of the National Association of Real Estate Brokers (NAREB).
Recent awards and recognition include the Commerce Lexington 2021 Salute to Small Business Minority Business Award, 2020 LBAR Distinguished Service Award and Mayor Linda Gorton’s official proclamation of March 14, 2021, as Guide Realty Day. Other community involvement includes continued support for the BMW Academy, Black Soil: Our Better Nature, Soul feast Week and a newly formed partnership with FCPS Girl Power Initiative.
Raquel is a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University and lives in Lexington along with her husband, Bishop E. Carter IV and their two children.
