Mr. Raju Bhagat has been actively involved with the Hospitality industry in Texas for over 40 years. Having moved to the Corpus Christi area in 1982, he has developed, and currently has ownership interest in over 25 hotels in the region. Most of his experience is focused on the development and ownership of select service and upscale hotel brands that include Hampton Inn and Suites, Hyatt Place, SpringHill Suites by Marriott, Holiday Inn Express, etc. He also has ownership in full-service hotels including the Holiday Inn Downtown Marina (former Omni Marina Tower hotel). While he continues to be actively involved with every aspect of management at all of his properties, he attributes his success to a dedicated staff of close to 500 employees. While hotel development is his primary business, some of Raju’s other successful ventures in the region include co-founding of the Charter Alliance Bank (now merged with Charter Bank), acquisition of the North Shore Country Club – a privately owned golf course along the Corpus Christi bay, and residential real estate development around the North Shore Country Club. Mr. Raju Bhagat is the president of the Vishal-Raju Bhagat Foundation, which was founded in 2006 in honor of his son, the late Vishal Bhagat. In 2010, Mr. Raju Bhagat was honored with the Special Congressional Recognition by Rep. Solomon Ortiz on behalf of the US Congress for his foundation’s efforts in its fight against juvenile diabetes. Since its inception in 2006 the Vishal-Raju Bhagat Foundation has raised over $1 million. In recognition of his contribution to the local economy, Mr. Raju Bhagat was awarded the 2014 Businessman of the Year by the influential civil rights organization LULAC. Mr. Raju Bhagat was born in Gujarat – a state on the North-West coast of India. His wife Damayanti Bhagat is a homemaker, and his daughter Vilina Bhagat is an attorney based in Houston.
