Paul paid for his University of Maryland degree by working in Washington, DC hotels and restaurants. He has opened and run three successful restaurants, a catering company and a consulting firm. Paul is a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers and the National Restaurant Association. A Veteran of the United States Navy, Paul is also a philanthropist and a strong supporter for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
