MEL STOWERS
Mel Stowers founded Stowers & Company in 1988.
Eight years managing a sixty million dollar commercial real estate portfolio for the Crown Prince of Italy ignited a passion for helping businesses identify properties that meet their unique needs. Mel’s clients benefit from the knowledge and relationships he has built over more than 30 years of buying, selling, and developing commercial and industrial properties in Atlanta.
Mel was involved in the start of Atlanta’s adaptive reuse movement. In 1991, he brokered the sale of a warehouse at 342 Marietta Street that became, and still remains, the Pioneer Neon Lofts, Atlanta’s first downtown loft development.
Mel worked with Northern Telecom over a ten year period leasing their office and research facilities in Peachtree Corners. In 2000, Mel played a pivotal role in the adaptive reuse of real estate on Krog Street, adjacent to the Atlanta Beltline’s Eastside Trail, now one of Atlanta’s most desirable and profitable development areas.
Mel is a founding member of the Atlanta Commercial Board of Realtors. He received the Silver Phoenix Award in 2015 following 25 years of recognition the Million Dollar Club. Mel has been recognized in the Atlanta Business Chronicle’s top lists for his industrial and office deals.
In addition to his active work life, Mel is committed to his community. He served on Georgia’s Workforce Investment Board and was Chairman of the Re-Employment Committee of Georgia’s Department of Economic Development. Mel has also spent years volunteering a member of The North Cobb Rotary Club.
One of Mel’s special interests is The North Georgia’s Mountain Top Boys Home, a group home for young boys the system has not been able to place in foster care. Mel has served as president and treasurer of the organization and is an active fundraiser and volunteer.
Mel is a graduate of the University of Georgia’s Terry College of Business.
He is the proud father of two sons and one daughter. To his delight, his oldest son, Ben, recently joined him in the family business.
