Bio
Joining CBRE Canada from BMO Financial Group in January 2007, he has taken the Canadian Health Care brokerage practice from humble beginnings to what is today the dominant practice of its kind in Canada. Since 2007 the Health Care practice has advised on the sale of over 18,000 senior housing suites across 5 Canadian provinces (British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, Quebec and Newfoundland) representing over $2.3 billion in transaction value.
Mathew had also held a senior role with CBRE's National Investment Team (Toronto) where he was involved in core-asset class transaction mandates in excess of $5 billion.
Prior to joining NIT Mathew was Manager, Portfolio Strategy at BMO Financial Group, overseeing all transaction due diligence regarding BMO’s corporate portfolio. As a member of the Portfolio Strategy Team Mathew was accountable for proactive strategic management of BMO’s Canadian portfolio and helped to formulate short and long-term strategies for the Bank’s multi-million SF portfolio, including lease vs. ownership/JV strategies, development and intensification strategies, dispersion strategies and occupancy mix optimization. Previous to his engagement at BMO, Mathew was a member of the Canadian Valuation & Advisory Services Group at CBRE Limited.
Mathew holds a graduate degree in economics with advanced education in the areas of mathematical finance, financial derivatives and advanced statistical methods. Mathew’s graduate thesis, Valuation of Compound Real Options in Real Estate, published by Queen’s University, was recognized as breaking new ground in the area of applied derivatives.
