Marty earned his Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Minnesota in 1983. He was a designer at a variety of architectural firms until 1988 when he was hired as a commercial broker with Palmer and Associates in Washington DC. He then started his own brokerage named Architects Real Estate Advisors (AREA) in 1990.
