Ken Wright is a local native to Niceville, FL where he graduated from Niceville High School in 1978. With a brief career in the construction business after graduating from High School, he enlisted in the United States Coast Guard where he served for over 22 years. While serving in the military, he rose from the enlisted ranks to a commissioned warrant officer in the United States Coast Guard. During his career, he served a variety of assignments, which included Search and Rescue, drug interdiction, migrant interdiction, aids to navigation, and several others. These assignments put him in various locations in the United States and the Caribbean waters. While serving in the U.S. Coast Guard, Ken Wright became the Director of Military Housing Programs for the entire Southeastern United States, where he received the prestigious U.S. Coast Guard Meritorious Service Medal for demonstrating exceptional leadership, strategic insight, and managerial ability while serving over 3,500 military personnel and over 12,000 dependents in over 5 states. Ken Wright also received a myriad of medals for his service, which included many U.S. Coast Guard Commendation Medals, U.S. Coast Guard Achievement Medals, SpecialOperations Service Medal, and Humanitarian Service Medals to name a few.
After completing his U.S. Coast Guard Career, he returned home to Niceville, FL and began a career in Real Estate. He was instrumental in creating and owning a new Real Estate Company, Turkey Creek Realty, where he served as Vice President. After a couple of years managing the day-to-day activities of this Real Estate Company, he later joined a local native and former Coast Guard shipmate who is the Broker/Owner of RE/MAX Southern Realty. As the result of the selling of the Fort Walton Beach RE/MAX Franchise, Ken Wright then transferred his real estate license to Century 21 Blue Marlin Pelican. Not only does Ken Wright act as a Realtor®, but is also a developer. He owns and manages various real estate in the area and assists in the development of a number of real estate projects in the area.
Ken Wright has volunteered a lot of his time in the community. Most notably, he served as President (2011-2012) and Vice President (2008-2010) of the Northwest Florida Military Officers Association. Ken served as a board member on the Crestview Military Appreciation and Recognition Celebration Committee, which is instrumental in showing appreciation to the men and women of the military both past and present with an annual event. He was also is an Executive Board Member for the Distinguished Young Women of Okaloosa County, a scholarship program for Juniors in High School, and now an Executive Board Member for the State program, Distinguished Young Women of Florida. Ken continually dedicates his time as one of the Founding Board Members for the Morgan Invitational Golf Classic since 1986. Some of his other volunteer positions held have been a Board Member of the Emerald Coast Marine Institute, also known as, AMI Kids of the Emerald Coast, a school for troubled youth, Board member for the Builder’s Industry Association of Okaloosa/Walton County, Supervisor for Heritage Plantation Community Development District, Supervisor for the Freedom Walk Development District, Member of the Economic Development Council, as well as a variety of committees with the local Chamber of Commerce’s and the Emerald Coast Association of Realtors. In November 2010, Ken Wright spearheaded the dedication ceremony for the Petty Officer Lonnie Jones Memorial Project at the Coast Guard Station Destin to recognize a fallen Coast Guard Shipmate, who died in a search and rescue mission in the waters of the Destin Pass.
