Bio
James K. (Jim) Akin has been a full-time commercial real estate broker since 1978. Prior to that, he managed a small apartment project while in college and did research work for a real estate brokerage firm, so his experience in the business actually began in the early 1970’s.
Jim spent his first ten years in real estate in Austin, Texas where he specialized in brokering sales of investment and improved properties. During that time, he was also the managing partner of NHP Real Estate Company, one of the premier firms in central Texas. Jim then spent a year as head of the equity division for a large mortgage banking firm based in Birmingham, Alabama.
Family considerations resulted in Jim returning to his hometown of San Antonio, Texas in the summer of 1989. He then associated as a principal with Cambridge Realty Group for the next six years. During this time, Jim brokered the sales of numerous buildings and other properties in and near downtown San Antonio. In the fall of 1995, he joined First American Commercial Property Group, where he remains to date. During the past 20+ years, Jim has been very active in the I-10 West corridor northwest of San Antonio, including the Fair Oaks Ranch, Boerne, and Comfort areas. Over a period of several years, he also brokered the sales of some 5,000 acres of land in NE Medina County.
Jim completed his college education in 1972 at Texas State University (f/k/a Southwest Texas State University) in Business Administration, Marketing Major. He has also completed dozens of hours of continuing real estate education, including four week-long CCIM courses.
Jim is active in The Real Estate Council of San Antonio, where he serves on the Executive Committee and as a Committee Chairman. He is a member of the Founder’s Council of the Real Estate Finance and Development Program at the University of Texas at San Antonio. Jim also serves on the Restrictions Committee of the Fair Oaks Ranch Homeowners Association.
