Bio
Asheville’s luxury real estate market is a lot like Asheville itself — soaring mountain views, hidden estates tucked away on winding roads, an eclectic blend of historical homes and modern mansions. But it also comes with a particular set of challenges and idiosyncrasies — it wouldn’t be Asheville without a few quirks, after all. Janet Whitworth understands these intricacies. She lives here; she was born here. Janet received her MBA from the University of South Florida, and after a successful career in corporate sales, she finally returned to her hometown in 2001. Since then, she’s seen Asheville grow from a tiny outpost to a thriving young city, sought after by professionals, creatives, and retirees alike. In 2003, Janet made her first foray into luxury real estate as a sales executive for The Cliffs at Walnut Cove, a private golf community tucked into the Blue Ridge Mountains. During her five years there, she sold over $44 million in land and luxury homes, and was inducted into the exclusive ACES Circle of Excellence. She founded Whitworth Properties in 2010 and joined forces with Premier Sotheby’s in 2015. Janet has a bevy of credentials and accomplishments to her name: She’s a Certified Luxury Home Marketing Specialist™ (CLHMS), a Graduate of the REALTOR® Institute (GRI), a member of the Institute for Luxury Home Marketing Million Dollar Guild, and has ranked in the top 5% of Asheville area realtors since 2005. (Although if you ask her, she’s far more likely to brag about her sweet little vegetable garden, or the hand-picked flowers in her kitchen window, or the liquid truffle she drank at the French Broad Chocolate Lounge downtown.) Janet believes in the power of verbal communication — the subtleties and complexities of luxury real estate can’t be captured in a text message. She’s a gifted listener with a knack for translating clients’ needs into reality. When she’s not working with clients or negotiating sales, she’s either hiking one of Asheville’s trails (in her trademark floppy hat of course), or serving on one of many community organizations, including the Historic Resources Commission, the Rotary Club of Asheville, and Homeward Bound.
