Bio
James Mullen is a Senior Director with Kent Commercial Inc. focusing on tenant representation in Northern Virginia. He was previously employed as a Senior Director with Cushman & Wakefield for more than 25 years. He has represented a large number of corporate, defense and technology-related companies throughout the Washington Metropolitan area. His range of experience transcends the boundaries of the typical real estate broker. During his earlier years in commercial real estate he concentrated on agency assignments. Working with local developers, he successfully leased several high profile properties in emerging markets. These included Hunters Branch in Fairfax, VA (1,200,000 sf), Braddock Place in Alexandria, VA (330,000 sf), and Trans Potomac Plaza in Alexandria, VA (315,000 sf). These multi-building agency assignments eventually won numerous awards for quality and design.
During the last fifteen years, Mr. Mullen’s focus turned toward Tenant Representation. Addressing the real estate concerns of his client base proved to be more rewarding, expanding his expertise into other avenues of real estate. His numerous transactions have included both the leasing and sales of Office, Flex, Retail, and Industrial buildings. He is familiar with the entire development process, completing on his client’s behalf a number of consolidations and Corporate Headquarter relocations.
Over the last two decades, he has completed more than 4 million sf of lease and sales transactions on his clients’ behalf, and has been involved in the successful marketing of more than 5 million square feet of agency listings.
Mr. Mullen is a lifetime member of the Washington Board of Realtors Million Dollar Leasing Club. In 1997, he was ranked #4 broker in Northern Virginia and consistently ranked within the top 100 brokers at C&W during his employment.
Mr. Mullen’s entire career is based in commercial real estate having previously worked for Savage/Fogarty Companies, Inc., a local developer; and as a sales and leasing representative and property manager for The Braedon Companies.
He graduated with a degree in Business Administration and Marketing from Southern Illinois University, and has taken additional courses toward a CCIM designation. He is a licensed real estate broker in Virginia and a Certified Commercial Real Estate Lease Consultant.
