Bio
Hiu Chan is a Senior Vice President Investments in Marcus & Millichap’s Long Beach office. Prior to joining Marcus & Millichap in 2000, Mr. Hiu Chan worked in various managerial positions in commercial real estate including asset management, development, and financial accounting. As a great asset to the Long Beach office, Hiu was ranked number one in the office and top 30 as of June, 2019 (over 1,400 agents), for apartment sales. Hiu has sold over $100 Million of investments properties in the past 5 years.
Hiu started his real estate career as a Controller at Langdon Rieder Corp. in 1994. Following Langdon Rieder’s acquisition by CB Commercial in 1995, he helped to build Grubb & Ellis Consulting with three other senior executives from Langdon Rieder. While on a vacation in Hong Kong, he found an exciting job opportunity to build shopping centers in China.
As the Associate Director of First Pacific Davies in Hong Kong, Hiu became intimately involved in managing the development and marketing of several major properties including; “The Yuan Hong City Mall,” a 1.3 million square foot shopping center in Fuzhou; “The Shanghaimart,” the largest trade mart in Asia; and “The Exchange,” a US$300 million mixed-used project in Tianjin. After the market crashed in Asia, Hiu moved back to Los Angeles where he worked as an independent consultant for Kilroy Realty Corp (NYSE: KRC) and an interim Chief Operating Officer (COO) for a private property investment company.
Hiu graduated from University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) with a B.A. in Business Economics (Cum Laude). Hiu is also an alumnus of the University of Shopping Center and Southern California Entrepreneurship Academy. Hiu speaks fluent Cantonese, Mandarin, and three other Chinese dialects as well as conversational Japanese and Spanish. Hiu enjoys photography, world travel (visited more than 40 countries) and exploring foreign cultures.
