D. GARRY MUNSON, President and a principal of Whitney Capital Company, L.L.C., is responsible for the company's real estate development and acquisition activity, as well as oversight of property management. Whitney Capital Company, L.L.C. specializes in the development, acquisition and financing of apartment properties, including affordable multi-family housing.
Munson is also Vice Chairman and a principal of Whitney Management Corp., an apartment management company based in Houston, Texas. Prior to his current position, Mr. Munson was President and a principal of Related Residential Company from 1991 to 1995 and previously served as Executive Vice President and Director of Acquisitions as well as a shareholder of New York City based Related Capital Company from 1985 to 1991. Mr. Munson currently holds an interest in 24 multi-family properties totaling 1,998 units, with a total market value of over $130 million, as well as 4 commercial properties with a market value totaling over $42 million.
At Related Capital Company, Mr. Munson was responsible for acquiring a portfolio of leveraged market rate apartment properties with over $50 million of equity; acquiring a portfolio of 39 participating first mortgage loans totaling nearly $500 million, including over $75 million of FHA Insured loans. While at Related Residential Company Munson disposed of a portfolio of 124 Resolution Trust Corporation multi-family loans acquired from the Resolution Trust Corporation after a successful competitive bid.
In 1978, Mr. Munson founded Whitney Management Corp., an apartment management firm based in Houston, Texas. Mr. Munson retains an ownership position in Whitney Management Corp. which currently manages approximately 3,000 apartment units.
Prior to 1978 Mr. Munson was the director of Community Development and Housing Finance for the Savings Bank Association of the State of New York, and was employed in Philadelphia by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development, served as Director of Development for the Philadelphia Housing Authority and was the Executive Director of the non-profit Niagara Frontier Housing Development Corporation in Buffalo, New York.
Mr. Munson graduated from Cornell University and from the University of Pennsylvania Wharton Graduate School with a Masters degree in Business Administration.
Mr. Munson is on the Board of Directors of the National Housing and Rehabilitation Association and serves on the National Council of Coaches vs Cancer, a joint venture between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches.
