Frank Nelson joined Newmark’s Capital Markets team in 2015 as an executive managing director of the firm’s Medical – Academic Practice Group. A position he held at Cushman & Wakefield where he worked previously since 1980. Frank has advised on transactions in excess of 20 million square feet and is recognized as one of Boston’s premiere experts on navigating the real estate metrics within Boston’s Medical – Academic clusters (Longwood Medical Area, Mass General Hospital, Boston Medical Center, Tufts) and adjacent to Medical and Academic campuses throughout New England. Mr. Nelson is honored and privileged to work with some of Boston’s most respected institutions including, Boston Children’s Hospital, Boston Medical Center, New England Baptist Hospital, Boston University, UMass Building Authority, Massachusetts Eye and Ear, Joslin Diabetes Center, South Shore Hospital System, Simmons University, Merrimac College, Dimock Health, The Church of Christian Science and the State of Massachusetts. For Frank, working for these clients is truly real estate for a higher purpose. The Medical Academic Practice Group, led by Frank, also represents property owners who invest on and adjacent to Institutional Campus Real Estate. These clients specialize in life science and clinical Real Estate and are some of the most well-known names in the business including, BioMed, REIT Management, New England Development, National Development, Charles River Investors, Clarion, Bulfinch, Samuels & Associates, Equity Commonwealth, AEW Core Fund, Alexandria, Deutsche Bank, Related Beal, IQHQ, HTA and many others. Recent major sales include 109 Brookline Avenue for EQC to IQHQ, The Kenmore Square Portfolio for Boston University, The Sunday School Building and 235 Huntington on behalf of The Church of Christian Science, The Charles Street Portfolio on behalf of Massachusetts Eye and Ear, The Boston Medical Center Portfolio to Bentall Kennedy, 140 The Fenway for the Forsyth Institute sold to the MFA, The UMass Biotech Park on behalf of Alexandria sold to UMass, The Steward Health Portfolio, and The Hebrew College Campus in Newton. Other major sales include The Center for Life Science, One Brigham Circle, Landmark Center, Ten Brookline Place, One Brookline Place, Newton Pavilion to the State of Massachusetts and the purchase of 801 Mass Ave from Bentall Kennedy to Boston Medical Center. Major lease transactions for the Medical Academic practice group, totaling over 10M SF including, Boston Medical Center Tufts Medical Center, Boston University, Northeastern University, Boston Children’s Hospital, Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Mass General Hospital, Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Harvard Medical School, Harvard School of Public Health, Harvard Pilgrim Healthcare, Beth Israel, South Shore Hospital System and Steward Health. Frank began his career in Cushman & Wakefield’s Chicago office where he was the junior broker on the Sears Tower and John Hancock Buildings. He was the first broker assigned to open C&W’s Boston office in 1984. Frank and his wife Kathy live in Scituate, MA and they are parents to Matthew, Michael and Laura, who now reside in NYC. Frank graduated from Brookline High School and Middlebury College and is an avid golfer and youth hockey coach with the Cape Cod Whalers.
