Bio
Duane Shimogawa joined Avalon Development Co. in July 2017 as a Real Estate Analyst after a stellar career as a journalist both here in Hawaii and on the Mainland. Shimogawa most recently was a reporter for Pacific Business News in Honolulu, covering real estate and energy. During his six years at PBN, he became the go-to journalist for real estate and energy news, breaking numerous stories including Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s purchase of hundreds of acres of oceanfront real estate in Hawaii and Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison’s purchase of the island of Lanai. In 2016, Shimogawa garnered more than 3-million page-views for his stories, which was the most in the entire American City Business Journals company, which spans about 40 top business newspapers across the country. He continues writing about real estate through his “Shimogawa Scoops” blog. Before PBN, Shimogawa was a reporter/sports anchor at KHNL/Hawaii News Now. He also has worked at a couple of NBC affiliate television stations on the Mainland including in Yakima, Washington and Kalispell, Montana. Shimogawa, a Central Washington University alumnus who majored in Journalism and minored in Business Administration, is the vice president of his condo association’s board of directors. He also is a volunteer wish granter for Make-A-Wish Hawaii and sponsors a child in Bangladesh who he shares a birthday with, through the World Vision organization.
