Bio
Dorothy Hudson, Commercial Real Estate LLC's newest member, brings more than thirty years of experience in real estate, commercial law, and community knowledge to the firm.
The first phase of her long career in real estate was in land development, through her service as general counsel and vice president for The Moorings Development Company. In 1987, Dorothy established the Dorothy A. Hudson Chartered law firm, through which she handled a wide variety of real estate transactions and commercial transactions including planning projects and development projects, title investigations, commercial property purchases, 1031 exchanges, business agreements creation, and residential home purchases and residential home sales. Most recently, she earned her civil mediation certification.
Dorothy brings detailed knowledge of people and properties along the Treasure Coast Florida and beyond, long familiarity with the complexities of real estate law and commercial law, and negotiation expertise and problem resolution expertise to bear in her commercial real estate transactions. “My goal is to serve my clients by bringing both technical expertise and ‘people’ skills to the table,” she comments. “A really successful transaction almost always combines the two.”
Dorothy has made a name for herself in public service as well as private practice. She has served on the Indian River County Planning and Zoning Commission, The Indian River Board of Zoning Adjustment and Appeals, and the Building Code Board of Adjustments and Appeals, during which service she has offered guidance on environmental issues, financing, construction, planning, zoning, and general business and commercial matters among other issues. As a current member of the advisory council to the Indian River Land Trust and its Land Committee, Dorothy demonstrates her deep understanding of the crucial need to balance commercial development with environmental sensitivity in order to ensure sustainable growth for generations to come. “Even when it seems most difficult, I always seek to find the win-win solution,” she says.
A Florida native, Dorothy graduated from the University of Florida’s Levin College of Law in 1977. Dorothy has also served as president and director of The Indian River County Real Property Council and as an adjunct member of the Indian River Community College faculty where she has taught real estate law.
In addition to commercial real estate, Dorothy enjoys hiking, cooking, kayaking, gardening, and above all, pursuing her artistic gifts. Dorothy’s sculptures and paintings have won a variety of awards and can be seen in a number of Vero Beach venues including Gallery 14, the fine arts gallery on 14th Avenue of which she is a founding co-owner. She is a former member of the Cultural Council of Indian River County and takes great pride in the Gallery’s efforts to make the Arts District a dining and cultural destination in Vero Beach Florida. “My passions for the arts, for commercial real estate, and for the town which has been my home for more than 30 years all come together in this work,” she notes. “Seeing Indian River County evolve and our historic downtown come alive with creativity and community is truly a pleasure.”
