Bio
David’s specialty is boutique, comprehensive service for high-touch consumer and lifestyle brands. He’s helped establish and expand the US retail presence of prominent international brands such as Nespresso, Dries Van Noten, Maison Martin Margiela, A.P.C, Sandro, Maje, VEJA, Tom Dixon and Joseph Altuzarra. David has sold prominent NYC assets to investors and family offices including Renzo Rosso’s Red Circle and the Reuben Bros. And he’s helped small- and mid-sized private companies assess and acquire commercial condos, live-work spaces, and co-ops to support their broader operational and strategic goals.
Though he’s practiced commercial real estate in New York City for over 20 years now, David was originally trained as a lawyer, graduating from UNC Chapel Hill School of Law and spent two years on the trading desk at Santander before deciding to pivot to commercial real estate. He blends analytical thinking with an impeccable eye for design to provide a truly unique skill set to his clients. He founded Baker New York as craft brokerage desiring to remain small and focused on working specifically with high profile lifestyle tenants and investors.
David has represented a variety of Landlords and Developers on projects in both New York and Miami. Midwood Investment and Development has worked with David repeatedly to secure top tier tenants on prime locations in NYC and Philadelphia such as Apple, Nespresso and Alo Yoga. Working alongside Robert Wennett, David assured that the Herzog & DeMeuron project at 1111 Lincoln Road opened up fully-leased in the midst of an economic slump in 2008 leading to a subsequent sale to Bayerische Verorgungskammer (BVK) for $283 Million.
David has spent considerable time living abroad in Australia, Mexico, Brazil, Spain, and Portugal. He speaks fluent Portuguese and Spanish, and he’s optimistic about his French. David is a passionate supporter of Big Brothers, Big Sisters of America and a board member of the Design Trust for Public Space, supporting their efforts to make the City’s public spaces more beautiful, more functional, and more accessible to all New Yorkers
