As a ninth-generation Charlestonian, Dan grew up in the Historic District and has long been a civic leader. His education was obtained almost entirely in Charleston, and he graduated from the College of Charleston (1972). He has served on numerous boards and commissions in Charleston and South Carolina. On many occasions, fellow board members have chosen him as their chairman. In 2007 and 2008, Dan served as chair of the S. C. Higher Education Study committee mandated by the State Legislature to develop a strategic plan for Higher Education in the state. The Daniel Ravenel Real Estate Company was founded on March 1, 1983, and it has had nearly $2 billion in real estate sales without litigation since its inception. On February 23, 2007, the firm became Daniel Ravenel Sotheby’s International Realty. Dan has received awards from the Charleston Chamber of Commerce, twice from the Charleston Regional Business Journal, the College of Charleston, and Pi Kappa Phi.
