Bio
Dan Doherty is a Principal of Eastern Real Estate, which he co-founded with his business partner Brian Kelly in 2000. Since their professional partnership began in 1991, Dan’s and Brian’s entrepreneurial approach and long-term industry relationships have enabled them to develop and implement creative solutions for a wide range of commercial real estate opportunities. Together with their longtime team of professionals, they have completed hundreds of transactions and developed over 150 projects encompassing nearly 15 million square feet valued in excess of $3 billion.
In addition to his extensive real estate experience, Dan is an active investor and provides executive guidance and strategic capital to a diversified portfolio of growth stage companies.
Dan is a strong advocate for education, personal health, and advancement of youth. In 2002, he established the Doherty Family Scholarship to help economically challenged students who exhibit exceptional leadership potential. This program, which has special meaning for Dan given the personal circumstances of his youth, has provided dozens of deserving students the opportunity to lift the trajectory of their lives through education.
Dan is engaged in many charitable and civic organizations. He serves on the Tufts Medical Center Board of Trustees and is active on the Strategic Planning and Real Estate Committees. Dan is also a leading donor to the Marblehead All-Sports Foundation, past Chair of the Development Committee for the Marblehead YMCA, a Board Member of the Nantucket Boys and Girls Club, a supporter of the Nantucket Cottage Hospital, and is a donor to Autism Speaks.
Dan holds a Bachelor of Science – honoris causa from Tufts University and serves on the Tufts University Board of Trustees. Through his 10 years of service, he has chaired several committees and participated in multiple strategic initiatives at the request of the president. Dan is a member of the University’s Executive Committee and chairs the Administration & Finance Committee. He is also a longstanding member of the Board of Advisors for Athletics and served as Chairman of the Tufts University Development Corporation. In recognition for thoughtful leadership, the Tufts University Alumni Association presented Dan with the Distinguished Service Award.
Dan is a lifelong resident of the greater Boston area. He and his wife, Meredith, are actively engaged in family life and the educational and athletic pursuits of their three children. In addition, Dan enjoys cycling, golf, swimming, boating, and fishing around the family’s homes in Marblehead and Nantucket. In the winter, he can often be found hiking and snowshoeing the woods of Vermont or cooking over an open fire with family and friends.
