Bio
A veteran of retail and shopping center development and brokerage since 1970, Barry M. Klein needs no introduction to anyone who is a "player" in Michigan commercial real estate. A broker in hundreds of transactions from 400 to 400,000 sq. ft., Barry has also developed over 30 shopping centers and freestanding commercial buildings from the ground up as a principal.
Known for his integrity, savvy, fairness and direct approach, Barry Klein is, first and foremost, a deal maker. Home Depot, Sears, Kmart, Walgreen, Farmer Jack, Office Max, and Dunham’s Sporting Goods are just a few of the chain stores Barry has made deals with recently either as a principal or broker.
Barry has been an active member of International Council of Shopping Centers since 1972, and served 2 three-year terms as State Director for Michigan, as well as 2 three-year terms as a member of ICSC’s Board of Trustees. He has served on the Michigan ICSC Committee since 1976, and is currently Chairman of its Membership Committee, as well as the Idea Exchange Reception.
An active person with many interests outside of the office, Barry is a physical fitness buff, usually running seven miles every other day, working out with weights twice a week, and he also enjoys playing golf, and walking and running with his Sheltie, Lissie.
As a runner since 1978, Barry has participated in several half-marathons in the 80's and 90's, and he most recently completed the Naples Daily News Half-Marathons on January 28, 2001, and January 26, 2003. Barry finished with times of 7:13 minute-per-mile pace and 7:30 minute-per-mile pace, respectively.
Barry is a past President of Oakland University’s Alumni Association, has served on the Oakland University Foundation Board since 1990, University Foundation Board, and is a member of Oakland University’s Golden Oaks Society.
A former rock and roll singer in his college days, Barry enjoys listening to rock, rockabilly, classic country, "alt" country, and classic blues, and writes articles for the Rockabilly Hall of Fame on the Internet at

Barry’s royalties from his first book, published in 1997, helped fund an endowment for the George R. Klein Memorial Scholarship Fund at Oakland University, which provides scholarships for PhD candidates in substance abuse counseling.
