Bio
Alex Somerville is a Senior Vice President in CBRE’s Advisory & Transactions group based in the Bay Area. He has over 20 years of experience advising clients on corporate finance, real estate strategy and transactions. Before joining CBRE, Alex spent several years in investment banking where he worked with a private equity client base – he leverages this experience to understand his client’s business and financial objectives and translate them into actionable, business-driven real estate strategy. He has worked with both early-stage companies and large multi-national corporations and has completed almost 10 MSF of real estate transactions including leasing, capital markets, build-to-suits and sale-leasebacks.
Alex is a strategic thinker and combines strong corporate finance and real estate expertise to focus on complex deal structuring, metro planning to support growth or consolidation and portfolio cost reduction strategies. He is a trusted advisor to his clients and is able translate complex and ambiguous situations into clear operational strategies to quickly gain internal consensus and approvals. He knows how to deliver the strength of the CBRE platform and has a strong global network to bring to any situation.
In addition, he has run multi-market transaction teams and helped set up, and then program managed, a major client’s surplus property portfolio that peaked at 14 MSF. He was responsible for disposition strategy, transaction execution and financial forecasting and reporting.
Areas of expertise include corporate finance and accounting issues, portfolio analysis, as well as disposition strategies and general leasing assignments.
