About Lewisham
Lewisham is a vibrant and diverse south London borough with a host of attractive retail and dining options that serve a relatively young and well-educated demographic. Neighbourhoods like Deptford, Catford and Blackheath are especially popular with young professionals, and new independent restaurants and shops have emerged in other parts of the borough, too. Lewisham’s population has expanded at a faster rate than the London average over the past decade, with more than 300,000 people now living in the borough.
Plans are in place to revitalise Lewisham’s retail scene, which should lure in more new residents and employment opportunities in the coming years. Landsec recently announced plans for a £1.2 billion mixed-use redevelopment of Lewisham Shopping Centre to include 2,200 homes. This follows an innovative redevelopment of nearby Tower House, which used to house a department store, into a mix of homes, as well as co-working and leisure space.
Most retailers and restauranteurs in the area cater to local residents rather than visitors. TK Maxx, Marks & Spencer, Primark and Sainsbury’s are among the largest retailers in the area. Tony Carroll, Director
Tony was a Senior Director in the Shopping Centre Leasing team at CBRE with shared responsibility of leading the team.
He has advised on a variety of the most prominent shopping centres in the UK with advice centred around development, refurbishment, asset management and leasing expertise. For example, he has been involved in centre:mk, Milton Keynes where he delivered a host of key lettings and advised Hermes/Aus Super on the refurbishment and re-positioning of a section of the shopping centre. Tony advised British Land throughout their £60m refurbishment and proposed £300m leisure extension of Meadowhall, Sheffield.
He has provided leasing and asset management advice across projects, such as, Intu Merry Hill, Manchester Arndale, Liverpool One, Intu Bromley, Buchanan Galleries Glasgow and Broughton Park Chester.
Tony was also part of the development leasing teams, which delivered Westfield Bradford (now The Broadway Bradford) and Westgate Oxford on behalf of Landsec and The Crown Estate. Tony also provided development consultancy advice to Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield and Hammerson on the proposed re-development of Croydon.
His clients have included Landsec, Hermes, Intu, British Land, Hammerson, M&G, The Crown Estate, Nuveen, Standard Life.
Away from the office, Tony is an avid sports fan and holds a season ticket at Arsenal. He also enjoys travelling and trying out new restaurants with his wife.
Rob Jones, Director
He then moved to CBRE working in the Shopping Centre Development & Leasing team, providing leasing strategy advice to some of the country’s major landlords such as Landsec, Intu, Hermes, Legal & General and Schroders. His leasing and development leasing projects have included the likes of The Lexicon Bracknell, Buchanan Galleries Glasgow, Merry Hill Dudley, The Liberty Centre Romford and Royal Victoria Place in Tunbridge Wells.
Prior to joining Time Retail, Rob held the position of Director at boutique agency AS Retail, where he utilised his close industry contacts to help grow the client base of the business and advised the likes of Arcadia, Mountain Warehouse, Starbucks, Muffin Break, RPMI Railpen, and Crest Nicholson on the early stages of tenant mix planning for Brightwells Yard in Farnham.
At Time Retail Rob splits his time between providing strategic leasing advice to clients such as Landsec and Intu, advising on acquisition and portfolio strategy for retailers in the UK, working with the investment team on the acquisition of retail properties, and working with our international partners.
Outside of work Rob enjoys travel & watching rugby, but most of all soaking up the relentless energy and enthusiasm of his two young kids.
