Allestree Hall was built in the early 1800’s at the request of Bache Thornhill and designed by Architect James Wyatt, with property and grounds used as a place of residence up until the late 1920’s. During the war years, the building was used as the county headquarters for the National Fire Service, thereafter Derby City Council became stewards of the Hall and converted the estate into a country park together with an 18-hole golf course. The Hall is currently vacant and is in need of a comprehensive but sensitive scheme of repair, refurbishment and redecoration. Externally, the former golf course has been replaced by UK’s largest Urban re-wilding project.
