The building is well placed to enjoy some of London’s finest shopping, restaurants, cultural venues and combined with a growing residential community, Kensington is the first choice for many business organisations. 52 Princes Gate was built in c1873, with the internal works designed by the Architect George Aitchinson whose brief was to decorate it in a manner commensurate with the new occupant’s social and artistic aspirations. The results were a brilliant success; boasting in 1876 that ‘there was nothing in London to match it!’ Some of the original features survive today; a detailed wooden dado with a floral pattern in ivory and mother-of-pearl, decorative plaster ceilings with sunflowers in the border panels, and a finely detailed Renaissance-style chimney piece carved in black marble.
